are you ready for a workout?

That was a rhetorical question, of course you are. ⇣

about my coaching

My background and how I can help. ⇣

I am an SBE-certified voice teacher with degrees in both Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy (teaching). I was a resident Opera singer for years & fundamentally understand the voice, presence, & performance. I also have a PMP in Project Management to help you organize your thoughts & plan your VO life. If I can help Fortune 100 corporations plan & get more organized, I can definitely help you! I have also worked in just about every facet of VO:

Video Games

Commercial

TV Promo

Movie Trailer

Movies

Animated Series

Anime

Animated Movies

E-Learning

Kids Edutainment

Corporate Narration

IVR

Radio

Radio Imaging & more.

Despite this experience, I do not feel especially qualified to coach on acting technique itself. But this is what makes me different from your average coach - I focus on other necessary skills. Soft-skills, being present, digging into yourself, understanding what you're saying and why & most importantly finding your strengths. My coaching includes:

Audition Skills

Script & Character Analysis

Learning to be Directable

Understanding the Market

Goal-Setting & Organization.

Note: I do not provide ongoing "forever-coaching", so my sessions do have an end-point. I do this because I have my own VO career to focus on and because I don't think it's ethical or fair to you to create a reliance on coaching. We all have to fly from the nest & experiment for ourselves! All of my classes are one-on-one customized coaching. If you would like me to teach a group class or VO workout, please e-mail me for availability.

teaching style

Not everyone learns the same & not everyone teaches the same. Find the best combo for you! ⇣

If you've seen me around you probably know my communication style is no-bs, honest, & encouraging. People don't come to me for sunshine and rainbows and flattery, they come to me for real loving honesty & support...and experience. So if you're looking for a cheerleader, that's not really me and I'm happy to suggest some great coaches for you! But if you're looking to roll up your sleeves and DO THE WORK then I can help you.

I believe good acting requires soul searching, and the better we know ourselves & others, the better actors we are. Because of this, my students often tell me coaching sessions feel a little like a supportive & invigorating therapy session. I am here to help you get in touch with yourself so you can show your beauty to the world! That's why people get hired. I will teach you to analyze & understand your natural instincts & teach you to teach yourself as you progress through your career. If I've done my job right, you won't even know I've helped at all, you'll just feel prepared & successful.

stuff to consider

Vetting your coach is the best thing you could do for yourself. ⇣

It's important to vet your teachers to make sure they are working regularly in the field you're interested in. This industry moves fast, and if your teacher is not keeping up with changes in casting & approach post-covid, you could risk paying for outdated or non-applicable information. Always consider your teacher's experience & make sure it applies to what you want. Avoid red flags like super low rates or the bulk of a coach's experience being for their employer. And remember: experience in one field isn't necessarily transferable to another type of VO. A good teacher doesn't break you down, criticize, yell, give you unrealistic expectations, or promise you roles or representation or lots of money. That's another BIG red flag. Nor should a teacher aggressively sell you on their services - their reputation, work, and background should speak for itself.
